Août 1999. Des terroristes menacent de « désaxer » la Terre en déclenchant une énorme secousse sismique dans l'une des fosses sous-marines qui bordent l'archipel japonais. Un terrible raz-de-marée submergerait le Japon, mais surtout l'écosystème de la planète tout entière s'en trouverait bouleversé, et les équilibres géopolitiques rompus. Fiction ? Prémonition ?

Michel Meyer et Michel Tatu, qui avaient anticipé, dans un précédent roman, le putsch qui, en août 1991, allait précipiter la fin du régime communiste, tracent ici les contours d'un monde, notre monde, où des aventuriers richissimes, dévorés par l'instinct de puissance, ont décidé de combattre la suprématie des politiques en portant le terrorisme à un degré de perversité jamais égalé.
